$5 million in funding announced for Stage One of Thornbury High's redevelopment!
Fantastic news was revealed at Thornbury High School last week: Stage One of the THS Redevelopment Project has received $5 million in government funding! The announcement was made by the Education Minister, James Merlino; Clare Burns, Labor's candidate for Northcote; and Jenny Mikakos, Minister for Families and Children, to an assembly of Year 9 students, Redevelopment Committee parents, and staff, and we couldn't be happier with the news!
Stage One of the redevelopment includes the new Sports Centre (including new gymnasium and court facilities), as well as new Food Technology kitchens and a Performing Arts centre, with a dedicated theatre and rehearsal rooms. The funding is effective immediately, and is not conditional on the result of the upcoming Northcote by-election.
While this is excellent news, the commitment of 5 million dollars is not sufficient to complete the necessary redevelopment of Thornbury High School beyond Stage One.
