Student Voice

At Thornbury High School we believe that student voice is about the school community, what students’ thoughts are, how students’ learning environment can be improved and how students’ want their school community to look and feel.

Current Student Voice opportunities include:

  • Student Representative Council – years 7 – 11

  • Students involved in the SRC will have the unique opportunity of improving the school community.

  • The SRC represent the voice of the students.

Peer Support – Year 10

This program involves the senior students as active participants in the teaching process and through practical experience; they develop communication and leadership skills and a greater awareness of their own abilities. They facilitate the transition of our year 7’s into the school.

School Captains – Year 12

Thornbury’s School Captains are students who have shown exceptional leadership throughout their years at school. They are model students and citizens, offering back to their community.

Debating Society – Year 7 to 12

Thornbury Debating Society offers students the opportunity to represent the school at Competition Debating, Public Speaking.

Class TV – Year 9

Class TV is a one-of-a-kind educational program that encourages young people to have a voice in the Media, and offers them the platform and the training for their expression. The program enables students and teachers to move beyond the traditional four walls and utilize digital literacy in creative and useful ways that value adds to their curriculum. At “Class TV”, we offer young people the opportunity to be a true ‘creator’ of media.

Thornbury’s Got Talent

A talent competition run by Thornbury SRC, showcasing the abilities of Thornbury students.

Model UN Conference

The Model UN Conference Program is a unique, constructive and interactive professional development tool that enables participants to engage in global issues and the work of the United Nations. Today more than ever, citizens the world over understand that issues at home are increasingly connected to issues abroad. They also recognise that without a comprehensive understanding of these international issues, they will be left behind in global decision making today and in the future.
